- I once had a CFO of a local cabinet company inform me that every quarter, she had to sort and rename thousands of pictures of their shipping receipts. I spent the evening programming a Python script that utilized optical character recognition (OCR) to automatically read the images, rename them, and then sort them into the correct categories. This saved the CFO hundreds of hours over the next year.
- A local high profile brokerage company downtown had a peculiar request.
The scenario: Insurance required that the brokerage area in their building was separated from the common area shared by other tenants.
The problem: Installing a clunky door with a card access system would block the beautiful high-rise view of downtown.
The solution: Using a variety of low voltage devices, a card access controller, and a custom-programmed microcontroller, we were able to develop a system that met insurance requirements without the need of a physical door in place. This system would detect movement through the protected area. If the user did not have the credentials to pass into the protected area, an alarm would sound and footage logging and alerting would be triggered. - A concrete company was manually delivering batches of receipts and delivery labels to another plant… 2 hours away. We built a micro-network at the remote plant and installed a factory-grade network label printer onsite. At this point, we established a Virtual Private Network (VPN) tunnel between the main plant and the remote plant, enabling them to print the labels directly to the remote plant. This has saved them tremendous hours of labor – and gas.
